Gouden Kabouter Awards 2014
There is an award show for people who work in and live for the nightlife in Amsterdam (and festivals throughout the Netherlands). There is an new award this year, the award for the Absolutely Fabulous Kabouter (‘extravagante nachtvlinder’ which translates into extravagant moth). This category is added because (my) icon Fabiola died last year and they dedicated this award to him.
The title and award ‘extravagant nachtvlinder’ suits Fabiola in multiple ways. First, because Fabiola was a extravagant performance artist and a well-known face in the gayscene and nightlife in Amsterdam. Second, there’s something interesting about his name. People thought Fabiola had the sophisticated walk of a royal, so he chose the name Fabiola which originates from the former Queen of Belgium. But a funny fact is that Fabiola also a genus of the concealer moth family is (I have to admit that my dear friend Anne Oosterheerd came up with this one). So actually, his name means ‘nachtvlinder’. I don’t know whether he chose this name on purpose or that it’s just a coincidence, but I can’t think of a better name myself for such an icon.
Ok, back to the Absolutely Fabolous Kabouter award. My heart skipped a beat when I heard this award was introduced last year, I even had tears in my eyes. I immediately knew that it would be a dream come true winning that award and follow Fabiola’s steps. I hope you noticed my extravagance past year (I did blog a lot about it!) and are willing to nominate and later vote for me to win the Absolutely Fabulous Kabouter (extravagante nachtvlinder)! You can nominate me until the 1st of March and after that the voting begins.
